Alvar Aalto‘s work on the savoy hotel is best remembered through his iconic Savoy vase. His additional work may not be as famous but is no less worthy of the name Aalto.
A simple version of the Bell Light (A330s) first appeared in 1939 in the Savoy Restaurant. It featured his typical streamlined design and characteristic diffused light. The more elaborate finishes on the A330 version of the Bell light (pictured here) would only appear in 1954. It would be first seen in the teachers’ canteen named “Lyhty”, at the University of Jyväskylä.
Both versions of this Beautiful Pendant Lamp are still available through the company which Aalto created to distribute his work: Artek.
