The Paimio (named after the Finnish town) is his most famous chair and is a demonstration of the most advanced plywood manufacturing techniques of his era. His Bentwood pieces would go on to influence such midcentury greats as Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames.
The Paimio was first created in 1930 but would not be put into production until #1932. In 1935 Alvar with his first wife Aino would setup a distribution company called Artek (art-technology) in order to take their creations global. The Paimio is still available from Artek today.
