by Alvar Aalto
The Savoy vase is a modern classic from Alvar Aalto and is still as fresh today as it was almost a century ago. It first appeared in 1936 when it won a competition by manufacturer Iittala.
The nature of the competition meant Aalto himself saw no income from the success of his design. Originally simply called the Aalto vase… It adopted the name savoy when it was used in 1937 as part of the hotel’s unique styling. This classic glassware is still available through the original manufacturer – Iittala.
