by Arne Jacobsen
Arne Jacobsen evokes imagery of beautiful curves and organic forms as evident in his iconic Egg chair, Swan chair and (recently released to the public) Drop chair. All were part of what was arguably his Architectural masterpiece – The Royal Copenhagen Hotel.
Released in 1956, the geometric lines of the 3300 Sofa is a stark contrast to his other works. These also appeared at the Royal Copenhagen Hotel as part of the Scandinavian Airlines terminal. Whilst aesthetically divergent from his other work and reminiscent of early Bauhaus design, it’s no less appealing with Jacobsen’s sense of line and proportion winning through and demonstrating the breadth of his range.
