In 1960 designer Dieter Rams created the 606 Universal Shelving System. Not only is it one of the most versatile systems around, it still manages to look new and fresh today… but perhaps that’s because no two installations are the same.
During the 50s whilst Germany was rebuilding, architect trained Rams commenced work on interiors for electronics giant – Braun. It would be the start of a long career with Rams transitioning to become Braun’s head of industrial design. In 1959 he would ask Erwin Braun if he could design furniture for Vitsoe and Zapf. The reply was “Yes. It will help the market for our radios”. The 606 would be one of his first projects for them.
This beautiful modular storage system can be used for any number of purposes from bookshelves to wardrobes to kitchen storage. Today its still available from the original manufacturer Vitsoe.
