The Tulip chair was designed by Eero Saarinen in 1957. Its simple pedistool design was created to get rid of the ‘slum of legs’ under a table. It has become a modernist classic of industrial design with its moulded fibreglass form.
It was put into production by Knoll where you can still purchase it to this day, in a range of stylish colours. Keep an eye out for this space age design appearing on the original series of Star trek, where the Tulip chair was used on the bridge with a plastic appliqués attached to their back panel.
