The George Nelson Ball Clock from 1949 was the first of over 150 designs for the Howard Miller clock company, and is certainly one of the most iconic. Although it looks strangely related to the Eames hang-it-all, it’s recommended you don’t hang your towels from it.
The clocks true origin is shrouded in legend and mystery. A night of drinking between Nelson, Isamu Noguchi, Irving Harper and Buckminster Fuller would result in a sheet of scribbled clock designs. The next morning none could remember who created it.
The ball clock is still available today through Vitra.
