Gunnar Flørning (1932-2014)
From 1955 to 1965 Gunnar Flørning was the man behind many of the most popular and loved Danish wooden toys. He would produce most of his work through Danish company Laurids Lønborg.
His world famous Siamese Cat, produced in 1958, sold more than 300,000 units in Europe, North America and Japan where his designs were hugely successful. His little oak baby elephant was released in 1961 in collaboration with Harry Vedøe, a danish illustrator. Gunnar would produce many more successful toys but was sadly forced to retire from his workshop when he became severely allergic to all types of wood dust.
Today Danish company, Lucie Kaas has brought Gunnar’s work back to market. They are now available for a whole new generation to collect and enjoy.
