You simply don’t get chairs that look as tough as the Ox chair by Hans Wegner. Indeed there are very few Hollywood tough guys who would be worthy to sit on this beast. John Wayne perhaps or Clint Eastwood might have what it takes. It takes a certain degree of masculinity and self assuredness to not be upstaged when seated on the Ox.
Wegner created this chair in 1960. Named the “Master of the Chair” for his prolific designs, Wegner would begin his career as a cabinet maker before moving into furniture design under the guidance of such greats as Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller. He is also noted for his varied range of style but the Ox is undoubtedly the brute of his collection.
Today this Danish Mid-Century icon is available in a range of finishes from manufacturer Erik Jorgensen.
