Henning Koppel Eel dish
The Henning Koppel Eel dish was released in 1956, just 2 years after his ground breaking fish dish. Much like his previous work, the Eel (or model 1054) is hailed as a masterpiece of Danish silver.
This is no easy piece to make. A master silversmith may spend as many as 550 hours making this covered dish. The challenge lies in keeping the lid flush with the bottom all the way along it’s 71.5cm edge. Likewise, it’s not an easy piece to purchase, and whether you’re buying a vintage one in auction or placing an order with Georg Jensen you’ll be parting with a 6 figure US$ sum.
Koppel said of his work, “My serving dish is a work of art, and it should be a delight to see. You display it, look at it, enjoy it every single day. It is not supposed to be put away in some cupboard. In my opinion, beauty is the first thing to strive for in everything.” And most certainly beautiful this is. Available through special order from Georg Jensen.
