by Issey Miyake
Japanese designer Issey Miyake is best known as an innovator and thought leader in the world of fashion.
Miyake created “Reality labs” to investigate textile creation from recycled objects in 2010. The Mendori table lamp grew out of this exercise in sustainability. Created in 2012 in partnership with Artemide lighting, the Mendori is part of Miyake’s “IN-EI” range – which is Japanese for ” shadow, shadiness, and nuance”.
The lamp is made of a material formed from recycled PET bottles using an #environmentally friendly process that uses a small amount of energy whilst reducing CO2 emissions. It also folds away flat when not used – the result of precision #mathematics. This very clever piece of design is available from Artemide .
