by Pierre Paulin
When French Designer Pierre Paulin was unable to pursue being a Sculptor due to an arm injury, he would channel his flair for three dimensional innovation into creating unique chairs for Dutch company Artifort. The Mushroom chair F560 or Fauteuil 560 as it was also known, is amongst his best known works.
The Mushroom was originally designed in 1959 and released the following year in 1960. A variation called the “Big Mushroom” would be released in 1963. Paulin did not just concentrate his efforts on making beautiful forms, his chairs were designed for comfort. The mushroom chair followed his design ethos of creating sculptural, friendly colourful shapes and would win him acclaim by becoming a permanent addition of the MoMa collection.
Today this timeless beauty is still available from the original manufacturer, Artifort.
