Shiro Kuramata is celebrated as one of Japan’s greatest designers and his iconic work during the 70s has earned him a place amongst the innovators of the 20th century.
The four piece Progetti Compiuti range was designed in 1970. The Side 1 is arguably the most famous chest of drawers in the world. It’s black stained ash form and white lacquered drawers are instantly recognisable and have graced the cover of many design magazines and books.
Kuramata’s unique geometric forms were previously unexplored territory and would cement Japan’s place as a design leader. The Progetti Compiuti range was created for Cappellini official who have been manufacturing the range since 1977.
