The Spring table:
Shiro Kurumata‘s Spring table first came to market in 1970. Once again Kurumata’s innovative use of geometric forms shines through as he takes a helix shape and makes it an essential functional and decorative part of this piece.
Shiro’s constant innovation with shapes (often tied into mathematical principals), would not only win him international acclaim throughout the 60s and 70s, but would make the world sit up and take notice of Japan as a formidable design originator. Kurumata himself would be acknowledged as one of the most influential design figures in the second half of the 20th century.
Whilst not one of his most famous pieces, Kurumata’s Spring table is still being manufactured today by Italian design house, Living Divani.
