by Tapio Wirkkala
It would seem that Finnish national treasure, Tapio Wirkkala must have had a soft spot for Italian food or coin when he designed the Bolle Range for Venini Glass. Charming and refined, this multicoloured collection of bottles was created by wirkkala in 1968. The colours are created with a special incalmo technique where two hot pieces of glass are fused together to create an object. It’s a difficult and expensive process which means the vases and bottles pictured here could buy a small car. Today these are still hand blown by the master craftsmen at Venini.
