Back in 1960, Verner Panton developed the concept of creating a counter lever chair moulded from a single piece of plastic. Plastics were relatively new in the 60s and Panton and his contemporaries were excited by its potential, testing the materials limits and possibilities.
Panton sought a manufacturer who could help him realise his vision for several years, and eventually partnered with Vitra. This multi-purpose sleek and stackable Panton Chair first went into production in 1967. This spaceage chair has become an #icon of not just the 60s but is one of the most recognisable of all 20th Century Designs.
Verner Panton is arguably the most influential designer of his generation continuing the legacy of Danish furniture excellence into the 60s and 70s. Today the Panton Chair is still available from Vitra Furniture.
