This simple yet elegant C683 Sofa is one of three lounges still in production today from Mid Century designer Kho Liang le.
Chinese Indonesian born, Kho emigrated to the Netherlands in 1949 to study firstly medicine and then architecture. His success and acceptance was a credit to how forward thinking the Netherlands was during an era when immigration from Asia was rare. He is credited for elevating Dutch company Artifort’s competitiveness in the international market as an aesthetic consultant and designer. He would also attract international talent such as Pierre Paulin and Geoffery Harcourt to Artifort placing it amongst the world’s top furniture design houses. Kho’s interior work on Schipol Airport would cement his reputation in the sixties.
Despite his many achievements and far reaching influence, Kho Liang le remains an unknown name to many mid-century enthusiasts and is generally unknown outside Holland. His C683 chair was released in 1968 and is still available today from Artifort.
